Headstart Program

This year has come to a close and new fiscal year is beginning. So far the Headstart Program has worked very well for our band. We offer a swim program for the children, parents and elders to enhance physical awareness as well as a nice get together to relax and enjoy the pool activities. Each band has to implement the Headstart program into their communities to suit their individual needs. We have done so in our community and are thankful for the opportunities this has brought to us. SENCOTEN is offered as part of the Headstart Program as well as weekly teachings by our elders. I am in the process of developing a dictionary for our community members as well as flash cards that may be used at our Health Portable. Language is a big part of the community an it is a fun and interesting experience to learn where some of the language originated and how it has transformed into the SENCOTEN language. We in Tseycum work together as a team and therefore the Headstart Program affords us the ability to offer many rewarding experiences to our youth and young parents. I look forward to working with our community for the coming year. As a collaborative project I also look forward to any new ideas, others in the area may have to share with us.
